I went to the Ducks Unlimited Banquette for the Kingwood/Humble chapter last night and I wanted to point out some highlights of the evening.
Door prizes were ok, quite a few gun cases, hats and other camouflaged things. 66% of our table won a door prize, including a member of the board at the chapter who won the first giveaway.
The raffle, silent auction and live auction items were pretty cool. There were a few knives that I bid on and a couple of pictures, ultimately I did not win because right as it was closing some guy went up and out bid everyone on almost every item. There were a few shotguns in the live auction, but there was only one listed as being auctioned. The first gun, a 28 Gauge over under, went for $4000 dollars. Immediately some members of the team went out and got every other gun they could find to auction because it sold for so much. The other guns went for anywhere between $1500 and $2000.
Also in the live auction was an 8 week old chocolate lab. I had decided early that I would bid on the dog because it came with some training and I thought it would be a good idea. I did talk to the trainer prior to the auction. I was the opening bid, and I bid up to $800, but then it got to rich for me. When all was said and done, the dog sold for $2600. I think it sold for so much though because some guy's escort decided she really wanted the puppy. Anyway, I didn't win the dog, but I talked to the trainer some more after and he gave me a lot of really good information, including, he was not the breeder for that dog and he was having some problems with it anyway. He suggested a few other puppies that he had and told me he had a litter coming in January.
The duck walk give away was a Benelli SuperNova. Our table bought quite a few entries for it, but none of us won, but there was quite a bit of negotiation going on at the table for the gun if any of us happened to have won.
For the most part it was a fun evening.

Pretty Bad
I have been pretty bad about updating recently, and for that I apologize. I hope that some of my funny little experiences have helped keep people interested.
The Boring:
Since I came back from the States, I have been working a lot. There have been some stupid things happening around the office, and around the company. At one point I was supposed to take over a different area, then it wasn't mine, now it looks like I might get it again. I have been traveling a bit, but for the most part they are trips that aren't much fun. I was in Saudi Arabia for 11 days, including a weekend. I was able to finish a bunch of books while I was there and felt good about reading. I am really happy in my Kindle purchase because of traveling.
The Annoying:
While I thought I would be coming home early, due to conversations I had with many different people, that will not be the case. For now I am trying to make a decision about if I want to come home next year, or if I want to stick it out a bit longer for the experience.
I mentioned it in the boring section, but I am a bit annoyed about it is my area, it is not my area deal. I am hoping that they come to a decision soon.
The Cool:
Again, I am kind of excited to pick up the new area because it would give me more places to travel every once in a while. It would be nice to go to places that look different than this. Sand and small bushes are ok, but they get a little boring after a year.
We have a very long weekend coming up and because of my boredom with the area, I have booked a 5 day trip to Athens, Greece. I got a pretty good deal on it. After that trip and some other trips that I have scheduled, I will certainly become a gold level traveler with Emirates Airlines. That is exciting because it means I get to use all the lounges and check in with the first class passengers regardless of how I am flying. The bonus to all of this is that I am earning a ton of miles that I can use with United when I move home and can hopefully have a bunch of free tickets when I get home.
Emily, the girl I am seeing not my sister, is coming to Dubai for Christmas and New Years. It will be a great week.
My parents then come at the end of January. That will be fun too.
That is it for now. I will try to update more often with what is going on.

Seriously
I encourage every American to vote today in the United States.
And By today, I mean tomorrow because right now it is still Yesterday in the US, but here it is tomorrow. In 15 minutes it will be tomorrow on the east coast, but it won't be tomorrow in Hawaii for something like 6 hours. Even then you have to wait for the polling places to open.
Since it is tomorrow here already I would like to start watching returns, but I don't think that will happen just because Time-Wise, I am ahead of the United States. The good new is that since I am ahead on the TimeLine, I will know who won the election a full 8 before anyone in the United States knows who won.
On a secondary note, if you want to know who won the sporting events tonight, let me know. We are so far ahead, the game is over here before it even starts there. (That is unless its cricket. Those games are longer than 8 hours, so its impossible for the game to start and finish before it starts there.)
Happy Voting.

I commented on my twitter last night that I remember liquid generation being a fun website to go to when I worked at MBE and needed to kill some time. I remember working Saturdays and having people crowded around to play the Movie Poster Game and other fun things.
Last night, for some reason, the website popped back into my head. I went there and played some games, but they were not as fun as I remember them being, so I posted on twitter that I remembered it being more fun.
Right after I posted that, there was a response from the liquid generation twitter account that asked me what I wanted to see there.
I am considering responding, "Could you just make it fun again?"

Inspirational Cards
My sister is really great. Ever now and then she sends me mail, even though she knows it takes a month for things to get here. She sent me a Darth Vader notepad and pens and some pictures of my nieces, my favorite is from their trip to Disney World where they met Darth Vader and one of my nieces looks putrefied or completely in shock to be standing next to him. She also sends these great cards that are meant to look like those inspirational posters, you know the ones that have an Iceberg on them and say stuff like "Substance in 90 Percent below the Surface", or a picture of a building being blown up that says "Even the most structurally
sound argument can be blown up with enough explosives".
I really like the two that she has sent me, but I just found this one and thought it was worth sharing since there is a region meeting going on here this week

Coffee
There are a lot of different ways to make coffee.
At the bottom of the list is instant coffee. It should only be used in circumstances where you really don't have time to make real coffee, or in an office where there are no other options. Coming in at around the same level is instant coffee that comes from a machine. Neither of these options is good, but are acceptable in some situations. Make sure that you get a cup that is more than four ounces because typically in these situations, the owner of the coffee is so cheap they can't afford to give you a real cup. The cups are so small and the coffee is so hot and diluted that you might think you are just drinking hot brown water.
The next way is the coffee machine. This is a much better way of producing coffee, but it has it's downfalls. It takes a lot of time to brew a whole pot. If you are lucky enough to live alone, the first cup can be taken before the full pot is brewed and it is awesome. That first cup is so good because it is the first to hit the coffee grounds and isn't diluted like the rest of the pot is. If you happen to live with people, try to steal the first cup before anyone notices. Also, if you live with people, try to make the coffee with as much grounds as you can without having the pot overflow and spill boiling water and coffee grounds all over your kitchen.
Coming in just after that is the industrial/restaurant coffee maker. These are better because the water is heated already and takes far less time to brew a pot. If the wrong person is making it, or if you are getting it at a restaurant, the coffee can be weak. The wrong person is any waitress that is sitting behind the counter drinking coffee and smoking as if she doesn't actually work there. She will most likely grind many pounds of coffee at a time, put it into filters, and stack them near the coffee maker. Be aware of this coffee as it will most likely taste bitter. If the proper person makes it, you end up with Riley Coffee. This coffee can be difficult to drink due to its nature as both a solid and a liquid. However, it is really good coffee and even the last cup out of the pot actually tastes like coffee.
The final two ways of making coffee are relatively equal and can be equally as good depending on what kind of coffee you want.
The press is awesome. It can be made quickly as you can heat water in a percolator. There is little risk of diluted coffee as you can add grounds if totally necessary. The only problem with this method is that if you don't grind the coffee right, you end up with actual solids in your cup. Who wants that? Another large issue with this method is that the coffee gets cold quickly so it is best, if you live alone, to only make enough for two cups at a time. You are also really limited by the amount you can make with this method, so if you were having a dinner party, it could take you 30 minutes to make enough coffee for everyone, and by then the first cups would be cold and this could upset your guests, sending them into a furious rage.
Finally, espresso. This is really for the super pretentious. Though it tastes good, it takes time to learn to do and even when you know how to do it, you look like a jerk going over to your espresso machine and making tiny cups of coffee an ounce at a time.

19 Million Dollars
There is a great online game that has been around for years. It is called Hollywood Stock Exchange. I started playing it about 6 years ago.
The basic premise is that they give you 2 million dollars to invest in movies, actors, movie mutual funds, and other such things. The price goes up and down pending on how much is trading and finalize on a price that is determined by the amount of money the movie makes or the actor made (I don't know how that part works really, I could probably do better if I did).
For years I just kind of casually went in and played, mainly focusing on mutual funds as I didn't want to look at it everyday. So for years I hovered around the 4 or 5 million dollar mark because I didn't care enough. Today my account broke the 19 million dollar mark.
You see as I have not had all kinds of things to do at night or over the weekends, I have been involved in the game. I don't sit on it all day long, but I check on it once a day and buy and sell as necessary, typically spending about 15 minutes there each day.
If this is any indication of how I would do investing in real stocks, I would totally invest the 2 million dollars people donated to the cause so I could try.

God Busted on Cocaine Charges near Florida Church
I know it is already over on the Waste Some of Your Time Section, but this was too good not to point out.
The guy's name is God, sorry for the capitalization there, but it is a proper noun.
God is stupid! And, Just an FYI, God's last name is Howard.

Aquaintanced
Right before I left, or right after I got here, I received an email from a friend that a friend of her friend was living in Dubai as well and had offered to be a friendly face here for me.
Was that confusing enough?
Anyway, we have been in contact and are going to try to get together so someone beside me can tell me a little about the city and where to go. Though I have been getting around ok on my own, it will be nice to talk to a few people and not have to search for things, but rather know where they are and go there.

A Month Long Waste of Time
This post is really not going to be interesting in the least. However, I wanted to set up a post that I will put up at the beginning of October. You see I am interested to see how I spend my time. I am going to get pretty into this. I am in the process of setting up a spreadsheet broken down into 15 minute periods for each day of the month of September. From 7.00 am to 6.00 pm I will have an entry that reads "work" which will be figured in as part of how I spend my time. From there I will make an entry for each quarter hour interval as to what I did. I figure it should take me about 10 minutes each night to accurately account for all my time in a given day.
I thought about what I did with my time this weekend while I was driving to and from Dallas. This got me to thinking about how much time I spend doing things that I actually enjoy doing and how much time I spend just wasting time. I think it will be interesting to look back at a month and see what I am spending my time doing.
