Today is my sister's birthday.
She is part of the crappy birthday club, as is common in my family. To be eligible for membership, you must have been born on or very close to a largely celebrated holiday. Being part of the crappy birthday club does not necessarily mean that you will always have bad birthdays, but sometimes it means your younger brother puts sparklers on your cake and basically burns the cake beyond edibility. But, you learn from that, and when you have kids, you don't let them put sparklers on your cake.
However, one thing you might not learn from being part of the crappy birthday club is how to ensure that your kids don't end up in the club, especially on a worse holiday than you have.
