I hope that doesn't offend you

and

Your not offended, are you?

These have become to of my most disliked phrases that are used on a daily basis in my office. I typically respond that I am not offended, though I typically am offended at least a little. Today I made no such effort to mask the way I felt about a statement that was made and followed up by "That doesn't offend you, does it?"

I told my boss that I was offended by her statement. She told me that I must have taken it the wrong way. I told her that I was offended and that it would be best if she would keep future thoughts on the subject to herself unless she wanted me to walk out immediately.

The moral of the story is don't tell someone that they are not doing enough when you yourself do nothing at all.
